These memento mori are homages to my sister and the artists in whose paintings she inhabits. Each box is a continuance of acts of mourning, meditations on my older sister when she was terminally ill but using three dimensional objects. The watch faces and cigar box containers came my way from a friend’s studio who is no longer with us. The faces on the wooden figures have been excavated from family albums. Other embellishments were given by generous friends whose relatives have left them behind and my own collection of odds and bits. In the backgrounds you will find a whimsical nod to an artists whose work I admire and took liberties with by expanding copies of their paintings with my own imagination. These small acts of mourning spark flashes of remembrance and the play of pizazz and glitz lightens my heart.
Note that the size refers to the cigar box when closed.
